LEGO Star Wars
Play as Lego characters in a Star Wars scene
The iconic Star Wars Universe retold by voiceless Lego men.
Lego has made a very profitable business by making games from other brands with their Lego men as characters, Star Wars is no different. Play and build your way through all of the classic trilogy as well as the new movies, collecting a vast array of characters with different abilities to use. Build vehicles and other equipment to assist in defeating enemies and solving puzzles. Laugh at the antics and humor that Lego infuses in each and every part of the game, lending a tongue in cheek amount of wit with just the right amount of physical comedy while staying fairly close to the original plot lines. This game maybe isn't for the serious gamer, but it's good fun and suitable for all ages.
Game Play
Star Wars Lego is primarily a platformer, meaning players will need to jump and explore their way through levels. Solving puzzles is key as well, usually needing to find a way to break a wall, unlock a door or raise a bridge in order to progress. A key mechanic is the 'build' ability in which players will use piles of spare bricks to build pre-planned items in order to aid them. From building a hovercraft to traverse a pool of lava, or constructing a laser cannon in order to shoot down an enemy ship, the items are vast and varied and always useful. Characters are largely replaceable and the same levels can be played with Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader. There are some varying abilities, so the choices can become important, but for the most part players can build a team of their favorite characters.
Presentation
The Lego games are designed around their iconic bricks. Everything in the game is built out of Lego bricks and the aesthetic is very believable. The game looks and plays great, with a little chunkiness but it's easily overlooked. The story follows closely with the original content with only small changes in the re-telling.
Pros
- Lego's humorous retelling will have you laughing out loud
- The Puzzles are complex enough to keep an adult challenged, but not enough to completely stump a younger player
- Great for all ages
Cons
- Not a serious star wars game. This is directed towards a younger audience
- Lack of character upgrades / development
